October and November 2024 sees the return of the William Shield Festival, a celebration of the life of Swalwell's own 18th Century composer.
The highlight of the festival will be two performances of William Shield's 1784 musical comedy Robin Hood. This wonderful mixture of arias, duets and choruses interspersed with humorous dialogue will be performed by Rocket Opera with the William Shield Festival Orchestra. We will also be joined by very special guest Graeme Danby.
The performances will take place on Thursday 28th November at St George's Church, Jesmond, and on Friday 29th November at Swalwell Community Centre, Clavering Road, Swalwell at 7.30pm. Admission £12 (£8 concessions).
You will be intrigued by vibrant and virtuosic arias, and though Shield provides a rather different take on the familiar Robin Hood, you will recognise all the main characters.
Tickets from Eventbrite or on the door. For more information about Robin Hood and the rest of the festival programme, see here and also our Facebook page.
